I’ve recently come back from yet another successful trip to Scotland.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit some of the worlds most beautiful places like the Galapagos Islands, the Seychelles, Zanzibar, India, Indonesia, Namibia etc but I still think the west coast and islands of Scotland take some beating.

South west Harris, Western Isles of Scotland. Nikon D7000 with 16-85mm lens at 62mm. ISO 200, 1/250 second f8. Exposure -1/2 stop. Polarising filter.

Just north of Ullapool on the west coast of Scotland are some stunning mountains. To get the best views be prepared to walk!

Stac Pollaidh, western Scotland. Nikon D7000 with 16-85mm at 70mm. ISO 200, 1/500th, f8.

The Isle of Harris is probably my favourite place in all of Scotland. It’s a bit of a journey to get there but worth it for the great scenery and wildlife.

White tailed sea eagle, Isle of Harris. Nikon D7000 with Nikon 300 f4. ISO 400, 1/2000 second, f5.6.

Scotland has a reputation for bad weather but in fact May and June on the west coast are usually gloriously sunny and dry. This spring and early summer the islanders have been crying out for rain. They’ve even been suffering heather fires it’s been so dry!

On the islands even the ‘main’ roads can be single track with passing places.

East coast of Harris. Nikon D80 with 70-300mm at 300mm. ISO 400, 1/750th, f8. Exposure at -1/2 stop.

The great British weather.

You may have noticed (!) that this summer is a bit of a washout.

To anyone thinking of booking a course of Photography Tuition with me ( I’d just like to say that if we need to cancel because of the weather alternative dates to suit you will be arranged.
